SloMo A/V is an immersive audio and visual experience based on an enigmatic dialogue between sounds composed by Chloé and images created by Dune Lunel Studio and Adrien Godin. A few seconds away from hypnosis, this performance plunges us into worlds and climates that are sensitive to the most imperceptible movements and revolutions that build us.

Born in 2017 when DJ/producer CHLOÉ and Bulgarian percussionist VASSILENA SERAFIMOVA came together to revisit STEVE REICH'S "Music for 18 Musicians," the album SEQUENZA - a mesmerizing fusion of sequencers and marimbas, of scholarly classical music and electronic club grooves - released in October 2021 on Lumière Noire, now sees some of its flagship tracks brilliantly remixed by KRIKOR, ASA MOTO, DONATO DOZZY, IRENE DRESEL and PIÓNAL.

Far from the obvious, Chloé and Ben Shemie have built parallel artistic paths that are exemplary both in their artistic freedoms and their powers of reinvention. If the first distinguished herself at the end of the 1990s as a deejaying figurehead. She quickly knew how to free herself from the shackles of club culture. The creation of her label Lumière Noire was preceded by two solo albums, The Waiting Room (2007)and One In Other(2010). She released her third disc Endless Revisions (2017) and followed with Sequenza (2021) on Lumière Noire, a duo with percussionist Vassilena Serafimova, where she defends her left-field artistic approach. Engaged in a quest for innovation and innovative musical territories, it was logical that Chloé came across the music of Ben Shemie. Founding member of the group SUUNS, recognized by the public and critics as one of the most exciting formations of the contemporary indie landscape. Since his beginnings, the Canadian has never ceased to twist rock music in all directions. In particular, he has made his voice the instrument of an exciting hybridization between organic sounds and retro-futuristic experimentations, always keeping an eye on a certain pop immediacy. Their collaborative project, High Season, was created spontaneously as an extension of Shemie's first participation in Chloé's Endless Revisionsalbum in 2017. High Season is above all the result of a human and artistic osmosis.

After asking CHLOÉ to collaborate on the soundtrack of her show STATIC SHOT (2020), MAUD LE PLADEC has called upon the producer and DJ again for COUTING STARS WITH YOU (musiques femmes)". A new ambitious, militant and feminist creation made for the 2021 season of MONTPELLIER DANSE. The dancer and choreographer, accompanied by six dancers, uses dance and song to explore the unspoken, the marginalisation and the representation of women nusicians from the Middle Ages to the present day by summoning historical and contemporary figures such as Kassia of Constantinople, Barbara Strozzi, Giovanna Marini and Clara Schuman...

Contemporary Dance

"Musical love at first sight" is one way to describe the genesis of the duo formed by CHLOÉ and Bulgarian percussionist VASSILENA SERAFIMOVA. An impromptu meeting that has since turned into a lasting collaboration, culminating in the release of their first joint album this fall after four years of on-stage and in-studio complicity.

Habillage sonore France Culture 2021-2024

Static Shot is a choreographic project by MAUD LE PLADEC conceived for the dancers of the CCN-Ballet de Lorraine. In Static Shot, everything tells the story of the excess of bodies and their relationship to the music of CHLOÉ and PETE HARDEN. Like a permanent climax, the 24 dancers of the Ballet de Lorraine hold this culminating point together, the energy always having to be at its zenith. The piece, composed of an accumulation of "blocks" of bodies, images and sounds, plays with the codes of dance alternating between gestures from "pop" culture and "learned" culture.

Contemporary Dance

Performed over a year at events such as Nuits Sonores, Sónar, Mutek (in Montréal and Mexico), The Peacock Society, and festivals such as Marsatac, Musilac and Colors of Ostrava, Endless Revisions' live performance has evolved with every show. It was out of the question to let these new versions - replayed, recreated and restructured alongside the evolution of the performance's very architecture - fade away without a trace.

Chloé's recent hook-up with Ben Shemie gets the remix treatment, with Moire, Jonathan Kaspar, Douglas Reed and Autarkic taking it in turns to pull the track in different directions. For our money, it's Reed who provides the definitive dancefloor version, layering snippets of Shemie's dreamy vocal over a distorted, low-slung tech-house groove rich in throbbing arpeggio lines. That said, Kaspar's wonkier, faster-paced tech-house revision - think Innervisions - is almost as impressive. Elsewhere's Moire's version is a skewed, hugely atmospheric mid-tempo affair that makes superb use of fuzzy sub-bass pulses, while Autarkic brilliant re-casts the song as a super slo-mo chugger rich in manipulated vocal samples and clandestine aural textures.

Since the release of her last album in 2010, Lumiere Noire founder Chloe Thevenin seems to have been taking things relatively easy. While she continues to be a popular presence behind the decks on the European club scene, her recorded output has been limited. Endless Revisions, her third album, is an impressive return to the spotlight, though. A notably mature and thoughtful affair, it sees the veteran Frenchwoman saunter between dark, synthesizer-heavy soundscapes, clandestine cold-wave workouts, atmospheric wooziness, mind-altering ambient interludes and pitch-black dancefloor shufflers. It naturally holds together brilliantly as an album thanks to her consistently moody sonic approach, though it will take you a few listens to really get to grips with everything that's going on. Needless to say, it's time well spent.

Dawn is French DJ/producer Chloé's first release in almost five years. Formerly associated with the Kill the DJ collective, she has now set up her own label, Lumière Noire. "The Dawn" is a taster for her new album and is part poem, part ode to her Djing. Over the course of ten minutes, it moves from a spoken word narrative into a pulsing, minimal groove that builds gradually and eventually to epic proportions. The massively popular Dixon is charged with the remix, and he does a fine job; sirens build up to crescendo levels, synths swirl dramatically and all the while, the Innervisions boss mainatians a steady, driving groove.

Chloé was awarded the Cinémathèque Française's commission for the music of Hitchcock's last silent film Blackmail, as restored by the British Film Institute. The result is a humbly subtle, yet just, live interpretation of an original score, which accompanies the film without overpowering its image.
